Should I Use AI to Write Blog Posts? (My Income Skyrocketed)

It's no secret that AI is quickly taking the world by storm. Whether we like it or not, AI has become an integral part of our digital lives, and blogging is no exception.

Many bloggers are now turning to AI tools to help create content for their blogs. However, the big question that needs to be answered is, can AI actually provide a level of quality that is comparable to content created by a human, and should you use AI to write blog posts?

Using AI to write blog posts is perfectly acceptable as long as you're closely following Google's guidelines when creating the content. Your blog post should always make perfect sense, be reviewed by a human before publishing, be original, add value, and provide a great user experience.

While this may sound like a lot of work, it doesn't have to be if you use the right AI tool and strategies to implement it correctly.

In this blog post, we're going to debunk some of the most common criticisms and misconceptions concerning AI writing tools and show you how to use AI to get the best results when blogging.

What Is an AI Writing Assistant?

AI writing assistants are tools that use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to help you write blog posts faster and more efficiently. These AI tools can be used to quickly generate content, offer insights and suggestions, and identify patterns or trends in the data that can help improve the content.

Many bloggers are starting to use AI writing assistants because they provide a cost-effective way to generate quality content in a fraction of the time it would take to manually create the same piece all on your own.

They can also save you a lot of money in the long run, as you won't need to hire writers in order to scale your content production.

What Is the Best AI Writing Assistant?

There are numerous AI writing tools in existence today. In fact, new ones are popping up every day. That said, there are some that have proven to be more reliable than others.

My team and I personally use Jasper AI to produce high-quality content for our blogs. Jasper uses natural language processing and utilizes the GPT3 machine learning model to generate content that is both error-free and grammatically correct (Jasper integrates directly with Grammarly for this).

It also provides suggestions for improving readability, as well as a plagiarism checker (Copyscape integration) so you can be sure your content isn't duplicated or overly similar to existing content.

What Are the Benefits of Using AI to Write Blog Posts?

If I were to list all the benefits of using AI, this blog post would probably be ten pages long. So, I'll keep it short and sweet by sharing a personal story that happened when I started using Jasper AI on a brand-new website.

So I started a brand new website from scratch with the goal of simply running a blogging experiment. I wanted to see if I could quickly create massive amounts of high-quality content in a short period of time and actually rank in Google for these articles.

To my surprise, Jasper allowed me to create close to ten very high-quality articles in less than three days. THREE DAYS!

Sure there are tons of people creating way more content than that using AI, but almost all of those articles are poor quality and don't perform well in search engine rankings.

I don't know about you, but for me, it takes many hours to manually write one article, let alone ten. Here's the cool part, I only spent about 20-30 minutes on each article, and that's it.

80% of the initial batch of articles I wrote that weekend all ranked on the front page of Google within the top three positions. Not going to lie, I'm pretty sure that's what sold me on using AI tools in my business.

I also made sure to interlink all the articles using Linkwhisper so that Google could easily index and group articles together in clusters for topical authority.

Since then, those articles have held their rankings over the months, and most now rank #1, pulling in really good money every month.

Do you want to see my step-by-step process for crafting a high-quality blog post from start to finish?

Here's a video where I show you the exact steps:

Do you notice in the video how I'm quickly able to correct typos and sentence structures? That's because I'm using a free tool called Grammarly, which really makes life easier.

While I'm using the pro version, the free version works well too.

Common False Criticisms Against Using AI to Write Blog Posts

The use of AI to write content has been a long and ongoing debate in the blogging community. There are many people who are strongly opposed to the idea, as well as those who support it whole heartily.

Here are some of the common criticisms against the creation of blog posts using AI are:

  1. Using AI to create content is unethical
  2. Google is against using AI to create content
  3. AI produces low-quality garbage content
  4. AI content is inaccurate and not factual
  5. AI content constantly repeats itself
  6. AI content actually takes longer to write
  7. AI content is plagiarized and not original

Depending on who you ask, this list may be longer or shorter, but I'd say it covers 99% of the common complaints people use to justify why you shouldn't use AI to write blog posts.

Now I'm going to address and debunk each one of these claims to hopefully give you a better understanding of how AI can help and not hinder your blog.

Using AI to Write Blog Posts is Unethical

Using AI to write blog posts is unethical

Ethics and morals are always something that's very personal and subjective to each individual. If you feel like using AI to write blog posts is unethical and goes against your own moral code, then, by all means, you should not use it for this.

However, every situation is different we must be willing to look at both sides of the matter to judge it fairly.

I think the use of AI is largely situational and depends on the circumstance. Here are a few scenarios, in my opinion, where using AI is “generally accepted” as wrong:

  1. You're doing a freelance writing job, and the client specifically says they don't want AI assistants used, but you use one anyone without telling them.
  2. You're using AI to write a personal story or testimonial, which didn't really happen. The AI just invented one for you.
  3. You're writing a blog post on a serious topic that has the potential to severely impact someone's health, finances, relationships, or life in general, but you don't fact-check anything.
  4. You're using an AI writing tool to generate an article in one click, then publish it without reading or editing it. You could be giving people bad information looking for real answers.

While I'm probably leaving out some scenarios, most people would agree that those are generally considered immoral and unethical.

That being said, those are just four points. This leaves a lot of room for the legit and morally acceptable uses of AI writers.

Google Is Against Using AI to Create Content

One of the biggest misconceptions in the blogging world is that Google is against using AI to create content.

This is simply not true, and I'm going to show you why.

Here is Google's official stance on AI-generated content:

Spammy automatically generated (or “auto-generated”) content is content that's been generated programmatically without producing anything original or adding sufficient value; instead, it's been generated for the primary purpose of manipulating search rankings and not helping users.

Examples of spammy auto-generated content include:

  • Text that makes no sense to the reader but contains search keywords
  • Text translated by an automated tool without human review or curation before publishing
  • Text generated through automated processes without regard for quality or user experience
  • Text generated using automated synonymizing, paraphrasing, or obfuscation techniques
  • Text generated from scraping feeds or search results
  • Stitching or combining content from different web pages without adding sufficient value

If you're hosting such content on your site, you can use these methods to exclude them from Search.

An excerpt from https://developers.google.com/search/docs/essentials/spam-policies#spammy-automatically-generated-content

I'm glad Google has this listed because it's a great resource we can reference to actually use AI to create content that still falls under their guidelines.

Now here's the same list again, but I've bolded the important things we need to pay attention to:

Examples of spammy auto-generated content include:

  • Text that makes no sense to the reader but contains search keywords
  • Text translated by an automated tool without human review or curation before publishing
  • Text generated through automated processes without regard for quality or user experience
  • Text generated using automated synonymizing, paraphrasing, or obfuscation techniques
  • Text generated from scraping feeds or search results
  • Stitching or combining content from different web pages without adding sufficient value

So how about we use AI to create content where:

  1. Our text makes perfect sense and is clear to the reader
  2. Our content has human review before publishing
  3. All of the content created using AI takes the quality and user experience in regard
  4. The content isn't just paragraphed or using synonyms and obfuscation.
  5. The content created doesn't scrape feeds or search results
  6. We add sufficient value to the content that's generated by the AI

If we follow those standards, it's perfectly fine to use AI when creating content for our blogs. Google theme here is pretty clear that the points listed all neglect the user experience and don't add any value.

Now If you're just clicking one button and generating articles without reading them and then clicking publish, you are for sure going against Google's guidelines.

But that's not what we teach here at Clicking Publish. I'm showing you that you can still use AI and be compliant using Google's own guidelines.

Google isn't against using AI to create blog content. Google is against using AI to create bad AI content.

AI Produces Low-Quality Garbage Content

garbage content

Probably the most popular criticism of AI content writers is that they produce low-quality “garbage content.”

I actually agree with this one somewhat, although it really depends on the AI writing tool you're using and how you're using it.

There are tons of AI writing tools out there, but the best tool by far (and the one I personally use) is Jasper AI. They are leaders in this industry and are basically considered the best on the market currently.

No matter which AI tool you're using though, you need to understand that

whether you’re using AI or a human writer, they are basically outputting words on a page.

The quality of the output you get will depend on the quality of the inputs you give in both cases.

Here are three examples where you can get terrible content:

  • A cheap writer who doesn’t research well and creates inaccurate and misleading content.
  • An expensive writer who doesn’t research well and creates inaccurate and misleading content.
  • AI writer that creates inaccurate and misleading content very quickly

Here are three examples where you can get great content:

  • A cheap writer that researches well and creates accurate and helpful content
  • An expensive writer who researches well and creates accurate and helpful content
  • AI writer that takes your researched input to create accurate and helpful content based on those inputs quickly.

At the end of the day, you’re spending your time or money to get words put on a page and published. Both humans and AI can create terrible trash content. It’s our responsibility as business owners to actually read our own content before publishing to make sure it’s accurate and helpful.

Bad content is bad content, no matter who or what creates it.

AI Content Is Inaccurate and Not Factual

So let's do a quick exercise. I'd like for you to tell me what the melting point of a rubber tire is.

Don't know this information offhand? No worries, just let me know once you find out.

But how do you go about finding out this information? Most people are going to just Google the question and see what other blogs are saying. This is a totally logical and acceptable thing to do.

I mean, you could always grab a tire and a match to find this out too, but that's probably not the most practical thing for most people. A less crazy approach would be possibly calling an auto store to see if they know, but that requires a bit more work.

AI tools are no different than you and I in this regard. If you ask them to find information, they behave just like you and I (for the most part) and will search the internet for the best answer it can find.

In its current state, AI can't run an experiment like melting a tire and report back its findings to you (at least, I really hope it can't). While technically possible nowadays, it probably isn't going to make phone calls to auto shops to give you the answers either.

Accusing AI content of being inaccurate and not factual is no different than saying a human writer wrote inaccurate and nonfactual content.

AI Content Constantly Repeats Itself

If you've ever used an AI tool before, you might notice that it does indeed have a knack for sometimes repeating itself at times.

This criticism is pretty on point, but this is only the case when you don't provide any input for the AI to work with. When the AI has written all it knows about something, it will either begin to make up information or repeat the same information over and over again.

It's pretty similar to what human writers do when they don't have enough knowledge to write about a topic. They start to make up information and repeat themselves.

The key here is to give the AI tool some solid inputs so it can generate quality content. This means researching the topic well, providing good reference sources, and giving clear instructions for the AI tool on what you'd like it to focus on.

Doing this will make sure that your content is both accurate and not repetitive. It may take a bit more time upfront, but you'll avoid seeing the AI repeat itself over and over again.

So while AI has its limits when it comes to creating content, AI repeating itself is a critique that can be addressed with solid research and good input. With the right approach and inputs, AI can actually generate amazing content very quickly!

AI Content Actually Takes Longer to Write

Bored man taking a long time to write AI content

AI tools are promoted for their speedy content creation capabilities. In fact, the major selling point is that they allow you to create amazing content quickly, right?

So it's a pretty weird criticism that AI content actually takes longer to write.

The truth of the matter is that AI tools can be used quite quickly if you know how to use them properly, but like anything else, it takes some practice and experience to get up to speed.

Most people simply click the “generate” or “compose” button in the AI and then spend tons of time redoing it because the AI is either repeating itself or creating nonsense content.

The problem here is that they are using the AI tool incorrectly. Again we must ask ourselves, why do AI tools repeat themselves, and why do they generate nonsense content at times?

As we mentioned before, it's usually due to one reason and one reason alone…the inputs you give it.

The best way to think of AI tools is to use the dancing analogy.

Don’t expect the AI to write the article for you, but it’s more of a dance. You have to lead and let it follow your lead. Sometimes it may step on your toes, but as time goes on, you’ll both learn the rhythm.

Although you have to use it as an assistant, instead of expecting it to write an article for you.

The majority of people want a one-click solution to output a perfect article. If you use it this way, then you’re going to be disappointed by AI content.

Most AI writers like Jasper are based on the GPT-3 machine learning model. It’s the most advanced one available for public use (although I think Google secretly has a better one), but it’s still very limited in producing perfect content without human oversight.

You should always be researching and supplying the AI with the correct answer yourself, then having it generate content based on the answer supplied. Then you should, of course, be reading what it writes as YOU’RE writing the article to make sure the information is accurate.

It’s produced some surprisingly great content this way and provided more helpful tips and information than I thought it could.

AI Content Is Plagiarized and Not Original

Plagiarized Content

One of the last criticisms regarding AI tools is that they plagiarize content when writing articles.

Honestly, this one might have some truth in it, depending on the AI tool you decide to use. Some tools are better than others, and poorly designed AI writing tools may not create unique and original content.

Fortunately, if you're using Jasper AI like I am, you don't have to worry about plagiarism in your content. Jasper states directly on their website the following:

Jasper writes unique content 99.98% of the time, and you likely don't need to be worried about plagiarism.

The team at Jasper has trained their AI not to regurgitate what it reads and instead create new content by combining various inputs.

And because the AI is trained in natural language, it's able to generate unique content that doesn't sound robotic or boring. It actually reads as if a real human wrote it!

If you're still worried about that last 0.02%, then don't. Jasper also integrates directly with Copyscape, one of the best plagiarism tools in existence and used by content creators around the world to ensure their content is totally unique.

The Wrong Way to Use AI Writing Assistants

Now that we've debunked a lot of the common misconceptions about AI writing tools let's talk about the wrong way to use them and why many people are failing because of it.

The most common mistake people make is expecting the AI tool to write the entire article for them. This is a mistake because AI tools are not designed to create perfect content without help from the user.

They can be used to assist in the writing process, but they cannot write an entire article by themselves (at least not yet).

This is seriously the biggest mistake I see bloggers making when using AI-writing tools. If you want to produce high-quality content using AI tools, then this is not the right approach.

It also breaks all of Google's guidelines and will likely get your website hit in a future Google algorithm update.

One-click AI articles are basically the definition of spam content (which Google frowns upon). If you seriously want to make consistent income with your blogs, you have to stop doing this.

Many tools exist now, like Originality.ai, that can detect poorly written AI content as well. I even like to run my content through it from time to time (we have a special coupon from the company too)

The Right Way to Use AI Writing Assistants

Now that we've gone over the wrong ways of using AI writing tools when blogging let's discuss the right way to use them.

As I mentioned before, the quality of your output is only as good as the quality of the input you're supplying to the AI tool.

You should always be researching and supplying the AI with the correct answer yourself, then having it generate content based on the answer supplied. Then you should, of course, be reading what it writes to make sure the information is accurate.

You're leading the AI step by step with your research and knowledge while the AI follows you and adds its own flavor to the content.

This combination of human input and AI creativity produces some amazing results, as long as you're providing accurate information and the right kind of prompts.

Using this method, I've been able to produce some surprisingly high-quality content in a short period of time. Many of my top-performing articles took around 20 minutes to write, and they've brought in thousands of dollars.

Just remember, though, don't expect it to do all of your work for you. As the name suggests, AI tools are assistants, not one-click solutions.

Using AI to Increase Topical Authority Quickly

Probably one of the best uses for AI content right now is that you can use it to target many low-competition and low-search volume topics around your content clustered without investing a ton of time (or money if outsourcing).

Usually, you would do keyword research and search analysis to weigh whether something is worth targeting. The advantage of AI is that you can just target and write any article in a cluster, no matter how small or obscure it may seem.

I did this for a while when starting out. For articles I didn't think was worth paying my writers to create but still wanted to target, I would knock them out quickly using AI. Lo and behold, some of these topics had a ton of search volume and outperformed my expectations.

This is probably the most useful aspect of being able to create quality content quickly using AI for me. Content clustering and gaining topical authority become much easier.

Stop Fighting AI and Embrace It Instead

There are many people who just don't like AI and are actively taking steps to avoid it at all costs. It's completely understandable that it may seem scary and like a bad thing, but it's really not. It just needs to be used correctly.

Whether we like it or not, AI is only going to get more advanced and become more prevalent as time passes. You can waste tons of money on AI detection tools and ways to avoid AI, or you can do the smart thing and get ahead of the curve by utilizing AI in your business to grow.

As the blogging landscape changes, we, too, need to be able to adapt and change with it if we want to succeed.

Final Thoughts

Using AI to write blog posts is a great way to save time, create high-quality content, and generate serious income. I'm talking life-changing income here, people.

It's important to remember that it won't replace the need for human input or creativity. You should always be researching and supplying your AI assistant with accurate information so they can help you produce amazing results.

Just make sure you're also reading and editing the content they generate so that you can ensure the quality is up to your standards and provides a great user experience, and doesn't break any of Google's guidelines.

If you want to get serious with AI writing tools, then I highly recommend Jasper, as it produces the best results in terms of both content quality and speed.

It's also incredibly easy to use and integrates with a lot of different services so that you can connect it with whatever workflow you've already established.
